2021 Mrs Cividin Farewell Assembly

Last Monday we celebrated a farewell for Mrs Cividin at a special assembly. The teachers and students all wrote and decorated a story for her which we created into a book for her to keep always. A very special celebration for a very special person. ☺️We will miss you Mrs. Cividin! Thank you for all you have done for us. Best wishes for your retirement. 😊

We are very grateful for your support. Below are a few photos of the mass and student work samples that were displayed in the hall for you to view. 2021 Pentecost Liturgy

Pentecost was the celebration of the beginning of the early weeks of harvest. In Palestine, there were two harvests each year - during the months of May and June. There were several festivals, celebrations, or observances that took place before Pentecost. These were The Passover, the festival of the Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of Firstfruits. According to the Old Testament, you would go to the day of the celebration of Firstfruits, and beginning with that day, you would count off 50 days. The fiftieth day would be the Day of Pentecost. Therefore, Firstfruits is the beginning of the barley harvest and Pentecost the celebration of the beginning of the wheat harvest. The staff and students at Our Lady of Lourdes celebrated Pentecost with a liturgy on Friday 21st May in the school hall. This event was live streamed for the parents at our school. 2021 Stage 2 The Rocks Excursion

On Monday the 26th of April, year 3 and year 4 went on an excursion to The Rocks in the city. We got there by two buses, and we got to drive over the Harbour Bridge. When we got there we first dressed up as the captain, free settlers, convicts and soldiers. Then year 3 and year 4 got split into three groups. We got shown a police station and a cafe but in 1788 it was a hospital. We heard ghost stories about Susan and Old Man Jeff. There were lots of old houses and new houses. We discovered that, when convicts came, they built houses and wrote their initials on the sandstones. We had our lunch in front of the harbour. After that we had the olympics and a trivia game mixed together! After that we drew an amazing drawing of the harbour in the past and the present. We really enjoyed it, and learned lots more facts for our history unit.

2021 Easter and Holy Week Celebrations

In the last week of Term 1, the students at OLOL have been gathering as a school community to pray and reflect on the last week of Jesus’ life on earth. Our prayer celebrations helped us all to prepare for the Sacred Triduum. We have been listening to and participating in the Passion narrative which tells us the whole story of what happened to Jesus each day. These are the key events of Holy Week, which remind us of the enormous sacrifice Jesus made in giving his life so that we too can go to Heaven.

2021 Project Compassion Day

Thank you to everyone who supported us with our Project Compassion Caritas K’s fundraising day this year. The children had so much fun participating in the events. Every day, thousands of women and children around the world need to cover many kilometres to fetch water, obtain food, get to school or market, or simply to survive and the children at OLOL all had a go at trying to do the same on Friday 19th March. This social justice event was aimed at inspiring you all to "be more" for the poorest in our world and I believe this was successful. This year, we have raised the most this school has ever raised. We raised just over $6750.75 ! This money will be sent to Caritas Australia to help those in need. Congratulations to all the children, parents and sponsors for supporting our school and Caritas Australia. Here are some photos of the day.
