Pentecost was the celebration of the beginning of the early weeks of harvest. In Palestine, there were two harvests each year - during the months of May and June. There were several festivals, celebrations, or observances that took place before Pentecost. These were The Passover, the festival of the Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of Firstfruits. According to the Old Testament, you would go to the day of the celebration of Firstfruits, and beginning with that day, you would count off 50 days. The fiftieth day would be the Day of Pentecost. Therefore, Firstfruits is the beginning of the barley harvest and Pentecost the celebration of the beginning of the wheat harvest.  The staff and students at Our Lady of Lourdes celebrated Pentecost with a liturgy on Friday 21st May in the school hall. This event was live streamed for the parents at our school. Click here to view a few photos of the celebration: 2021 Pentecost Liturgy
